Alissa heaved a great sight, a habit she had recently acquired. For about two weeks to be precise. Two weeks ago Alissa had received a well written letter. Although she had not seen or heard from the sender in ages, the sharp, curved handwriting she recalled from so long ago was imprinted in her mind for eternity. The words that had been etched in the parchment were also clear in her memory; however, all she had been doing was reading the letter nonstop. Convincing herself it had really come. She pulled it out of her pocket, again, and read:
"Dearest Alissa," it had started, "Your mother informed me of your travels long ago, and I have been expecting a visit from you since the moment I received word. You have made no effort to visit me and if you continue such habit, be assured I will locate your whereabouts. Attached is the address of my new home in Klöra Harbor. Please take the time to visit or at least write me. Your beloved Uncle, Henry."
Alissa sighed again. Although she had great plans to continue her journey heading nowhere near Klöra Harbor, here she was anyway. Alissa remembered a lot about her Uncle Henry and felt the entire idea of a visit unnecessary despite not seeing him for years. He was a pudgy man with extremely dark eyes appearing nearly a black color. He was bald, but had a new wig for what seemed like everyday of the year. As far as she could recall, he was an Angel Mage. She held nothing against the man, but he brought back too many memories.Alissa could remember visiting him every other weekend when he lived in Brir. Trotting along his large porch and hiding in his hydrangea bushes. Her father would take all of the kids there. Alissa was well aware that her dad was the real cause of avoiding Henry, but refused to admit it.
Alissa coughed, hoping it would stop the tears that now brimmed her eyes. It worked. She inhaled deeply, but nearly immediately regretted it. The air was simply hanging with the scent of fish. She gagged and peered down the road. It was wet and puddles had formed in the holes along the path into the main part of the town, showing she had just followed the rain. It was dark and only a few lights were showing from the houses up ahead. Alissa thought it'd be best to find her Uncle's home now, before he hired a search committee.
She hiked her bag up on her shoulder and walked, her feet sloshing in the mud all along the road. She noticed the long shadows cast from the houses and thought of how easily one could hide inside them. Her shoes slightly squeaked, seeming to whisper, "They're coming, they're coming." Alissa gulped and tried to focus her attention on the rocky path, but a movement caught her eye.
It was fairly fast and too large to be an animal. Alissa quickly stopped and dropped her bag into the thick mud. She dug through searching for some arrows and her bow. Above her head she heard a bird call. She kept glancing in the direction the movement had come from. "Was that another shadow walking," Alissa thought to herself, "Or am I just losing my head?"
