Abigail walked down the path leading into the Bole Forest as she did every evening. She has been doing this every night since she was thirteen, so she knew every rock, every turn, every stream, and every bit of land within a ten mile radius of where she was standing right now. Abigail learned where she could and could not go. Although she knew this forest was dangerous, something drew her to it. No matter where she was in the forest, she was always wary of her surroundings.
She heard the occasional call from Faylen who she knew was flying just above the trees and out of eyesight. Every once in a while he will swoop down below the tops of the trees to check the landscape and to make sure everything was alright. Then, just as quickly as he came down, he will fly back up to his place in the sky, just above the tops of the trees, never straying too far from Abigail.
Just before Abigail had left, she backed her bag with some food just in case by some odd chance she was to get lost, she wouldn’t go hungry. Although Abigail was far from lost, she felt emptiness in her stomach and decided to take a break from exploring to eat. She looked through her bag which held in it a few apples, bread, a canteen, and some grapes.
She ended up taking out an apple and walked over to a nearby river to wash it and fill her canteen. She knelt down to the ground and dropped her head to look at the water. She saw what was beneath the surface, all the rocks and weeds that grew down there, surviving the cold and rapid currents. She rinsed the apple in the water, carefully turning it in her hands so that it was completely clean. She then set the apple on her bag so the ground wouldn’t make the apple filthy again. Then, after filling her canteen, she found a small clearing to sit down and relax in for a moment.
Abigail heard a slight caw from overheard, she knew it was Faylen. Abigail whistled twice, and Faylen knew this meant it he was to come down. He swooped down gracefully, showing off a bit by doing some fancy turns and then landed in a tree not too far from where Abigail was sitting. He then began looking around for a snack of his own.
After finding his prey, possibly a mouse, he went into hunting mode. He stealthily swooped down to the ground and picked up a poor field mouse. It didn’t take long for Faylen to kill the poor creature but once he had, Faylen happily brought it over to Abigail, as if to show off what he has done. Abigail chuckled softly at the bird and continued eating her apple as she watched Faylen eat his prize.
