Family: Vard Corlane, husband- deceased; Trev Corlane, son aged 2 - deceased
Character History: Most of Avee's life had been fairly routine, which she enjoyed. She grew up in a small village in a land west across the sea from the Isle of Lumen. Since it was a small community, they were mostly isolated from the rest of the world and even the rest of their land. Her parents and the other adults in the village rarely ventured outside to the larger cities, preferring to stay close to their family units and homes.
It was a fairly pastoral village, and the humans there made most of their living off the land, farming and raising livestock. Avee helped her mother with a small garden of vegetables and herbs while her two brothers maintained the larger crops with her father. Years of her life went by like this, her mother gradually teaching her a few potions that could be made with the herbs they grew from their garden. Avee took an interest in this, absorbing all that she was taught.
However, as she grew into a young woman, the boys and men of the village began taking an interest in her, as they did with all the young women. Avee socialized a lot more with villagers her own age, children of her parents' friends and others nearby. The main focus of her attentions was a young guard named Vard Corlane. Though hers was a peaceful village, they had a small squad of guards to protect their crops and livestock from raiders or animals from the nearby forest. They had a whirlwind romance and courtship, eventually marrying just after her eighteenth birthday.
Starting her own life with Vard, she moved into his family's home grouping away from her own home base. She put all her energy into being a proud wife for her husband, cooking for him and even planting a small garden of her own to grew herbs for dishes and for the odd potion.
A couple years into the marriage, she presented her husband with a son after some brief labor. They named him Trev, and the couple couldn't have been happier. Avee was busy with the new baby and he took all of her focus, leaving her no time for her garden, and her skills became rusty with unuse. The small family had never been happier; Trev brought a lot of joy into her and Vard's household.
A few months ago a devastating plague struck Avee's small town beyond the boundaries of the Isle of Lumen. Of those who died, two had been her husband Vard (a soldier/guard in the village) and her 2-year-old son Trev. Ever since, she has wished every day that she had died along with her family, so she wouldn't have to be tormented every minute of her life with all the questions of why? She used to be a bright, sunny personality until this tragedy struck her life. Now she seems to be mostly spiteful and angry, and drawn into herself, keeping her fragile emotions hidden.
With nothing left for her in her small village and with most of the village itself gone, Avee has been wandering throughout the region, recently booking passage on a ship to take her to the Isle of Lumen. Just before embarking, she found out she was pregnant, which did nothing to help her despair at losing her family, but she was glad she had not taken her own life just months earlier. She arrived from the north, eventually making landfall in the northwest corner of the island in the village of Brir. Though the village is friendly, she skirts around it wanting to remain solo for awhile longer. She does not realize until it's too late that she is heading for an even larger city: Vestur. Vestur City is an awakening for her, as it is much larger than the village she grew up in, and she has never seen such a large populace before.
Other (Pets, Home...): Avee travels alone except for the weapons at her back and waist and a small pouch that contains the few coins remaining after her trip across the sea to the Isle of Lumen.
Role-Play Sample: It had been a long trek from the rural countryside in her village across the sea where she was born, but the young woman had finally made it. The boat had debarked at the harbor village of Brir, so told by the other passengers aboard, two weeks prior. The path she had been following had finally led into a clearing, and she could see a large mass of buildings ahead, surrounded by a village. She had been thankful for her plain appearance in allowing her to travel fairly unmolested. The longsword strapped to her back didn't hurt either.
Avee felt dirty and tired and was hoping to find a good place to rest among the villagers she could see ahead. Being able to sleep on a good straw mattress and having hot bath water instead of pine needles, rocks and cold river water would be wonderful.
She paused at the bank of a small stream to take a drink, pushing her long hair out of the way and kneeling carefully to avoid jabbing herself with the longsword. Right now she was glad for its cool comfort. After leaving the cooling air of the sea, she had felt warmer than the winter day should usually warrant. But then, perhaps she was used to her homeland where it wasn't quite so warm this time of year.
Gazing out towards the village ahead, she felt some hope at the fact. Maybe she could finally put her sorrows behind her and start a new a life. Albeit a very lonely one. Well, for a while. Standing, she ran a hand over her rounded belly, even more emphasized by her short stature. One last bittersweet reminder from her husband.
Fully rested, Avee Corlane headed onward towards the village surrounding the large city, willing her tired legs to carry her just a bit longer.
Right away she could tell that this place was a lot more populated than her own village; villagers were bustling about everywhere and she was surprised at how loud it all was. Animals calling, people shouting, children crying. With a pang, she remembered her own family. Shoving the thoughts from her mind, she moved on. All she needed was a friendly face, someone who might be able to put her up for just one night...
